Fred - Just to thank you for your great Series. It's obvious
that you love it as well as know it. We all appreciate
your work.
When I was Dean of Education at Carolina, I had the honor
of accompanying Shelby Foote on the platform at Kenan
when he received his Honorary Degree (mid-90s). I asked
whether he enjoyed working at our collection and he said
"Yes, certainly, and I enjoy your young Mr. Kiger
as well". Great tribute. And, I can see why.

Freddie Kiger has been the Keynote Speaker
for the Southeastern Society of Oral and Maxillofacial
Surgeons on two occasions. Fred was asked back because
he touched the hearts of this group in a way no other
speakers have. He is a brilliant and learned historian,
but more than that he is a captivating speaker who manages
to bring the historical prospective of this difficult
time in the history of our country to life in a way most
of us have never felt. Mr. Kiger energizes the audience,
stimulating laughter, tears and the yearn to understand
more about whom we Americans are and where we have come
from. Any group of people will feel they have been enriched
by his heartfelt and moving presentations. Whether it
be a presentation about Civil War medicine, the life of
a common soldier, the times leading up to the "War
Between the States", or any of a number of other
topics, Freddie will help you to understand the times,
the people and bring modern reality to this historical
period.
